Daily Fresh Munggo Bean Sprouts

In pursuit of a healthier lifestyle, I decided to grow my own mung/munggo bean sprouts (toge). One can buy them at wet markets, but with some drawbacks such as being pricier, more washing and storage/refrigeration.

As recommended by other netizens, I chose Munggo Labo (unpolished). Price ranges from 90-120 php per kilogram. Munggo Kinis (polished) are cheaper, but probably doesn’t germinate as well or as quickly. After soaking for around 12 hours, it’ll take 3-4 days until it’s ready to harvest/cook. Having 3 trays (with drain holes) and one soaking container, a daily rotation can be achieved. Watering can be done twice, after harvesting and before going to sleep. I’ve found 30 grams of beans produces around 165 grams of sprouts. I include the husks/shells when cooking, they probably have lots/most of the fiber/nutrients.
